The plan never knew the week
Work, sport, recovery and gym sessions lived in different places. A calendar could show events, but it could not explain what the programme should do with them.
Why Coach Alan exists
Coach Alan did not begin as a collection of fitness features. It began with one athlete trying to balance strength, conditioning, running and sport—and repeatedly asking a simple question that the available tools did not answer well: what should I do today, and why?
The lived problem
The founder was comparing apps, carrying context between them and trying to work out whether the programme still made sense. Those frustrations became the first product requirements.
Work, sport, recovery and gym sessions lived in different places. A calendar could show events, but it could not explain what the programme should do with them.
Heart rate, sleep, weight and workouts produced dashboards. They rarely produced the one thing that mattered: a clear, honest training decision.
Plans changed labels without building balanced movement coverage, meaningful variation or a visible reason for the next session.
When a day moved or the dose changed, it became difficult to see what was planned, what changed and what was actually completed.
The turning point
Understand the athlete. Make the plan visible. Guide the session. Record what actually happened. Learn from the response. Then adapt only when the evidence earns it.
Design principles
Tell the athlete what matters now. Keep the evidence close enough to inspect, but never make them decode a dashboard before they can train.
Today only makes sense beside the original programme, recent load, recovery, commitments and the work that was really completed.
A useful adaptation preserves the training intent, respects injury constraints and remains visible. More work is not automatically better work.
Coach Alan says when evidence is incomplete. Estimates are labelled. Safety and professional restrictions remain authoritative.
Private beta now
Coach Alan is founder-led and still being built in close contact with people using personal coaching. Available capabilities and future concepts are kept deliberately separate.
Sport-neutral onboarding, goals, equipment, dated personal bests, readiness, a visible programme, guided workouts, records and contextual progress.
A visible six-week block, intended-versus-delivered work, rolling load, current training status, explicit progression decisions, evidence quality and bounded whole-session alternatives in the private beta.
Strength, running, weight loss, hybrid training or your chosen sport. Your goals, available equipment, recovery and real-life commitments shape one personal programme.
A note from the founder
I am building the coach I wanted beside me: one that remembers the plan, respects the evidence, explains the decision and never pretends confidence it has not earned.
That standard is why Coach Alan is being released as a private beta first. The purpose is not to collect praise. It is to find the moments where the product still makes a person do the thinking that Coach Alan should be doing for them.
